BSc Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics)

Mechatronics is one of the more recent developments in the engineering discipline that combines basic mechanical engineering problem-solving and design skills with the expertise of digital electronics and computer systems to develop modern products or to advance industrial systems through automation and the use of robotics. Mechatronic specialization of mechanical engineering offers opportunities to develop a range of technical skills in digital electronics, drive technologies, mechanics and software. Students will engage in hands-on project work from the second year onwards and will become involved in the design, building and testing of mechatronics systems. In the fourth year of study students will undertake a comprehensive mandatory research of design project.

Students undergo a compulsory six months industrial training at the end of second and third year of study with a duration of three months each. Mechanical engineering graduates specialized in mechatronics will find career opportunities in many sectors such as manufacturing, automation industry, aeronautic industry, power generation and distribution, chemical, telecommunication and medical. Graduate mechatronic engineers have skills readily transferable between employers and may also find internationally.
